Muladhara, your Root Chakra, is located at the base of your spine. It controls the lower end of your body, the hips, thighs, legs, and feet. When meditating, you can ground yourself by imagining a link from your Root Chakra to the earth.
This Chakra is instinctive, as opposed to emotional, and is concerned with meeting your basic needs and your survival. The Root Chakra is responsible for keeping us alive, so that nagging feeling you may get around a certain person, or place, is your Root Chakra activating to keep you safe.
Your adrenals are associated with the Root Chakra, giving you that Fight or Flight instinct.
This Chakra is linked to Mars, which makes it assertively masculine, but also linked to pregnancy and childbirth. The Root Chakra relates to your childhood, your past, your background, and your family history. It reaches back to your early years and provides a base from which you venture out into life.
This Chakra is where the sleeping Kundalini waits to uncoil and activate.
Overactive Root Chakra
When your Root Chakra is overactive, or exaggerated, you may feel the only way to survive is to stockpile. You may work yourself too hard from the desire to amass a fortune. You may be focused on money and possessiveness at the cost of relationships with your family and home life. You may approach life from a scarcity standpoint and feel compelled to make sure you never suffer from that scarcity.
You may be difficult to work with, believing your way is the only way, and that compromise may cost you all that you have worked so hard to accumulate. Your overworking may cause health problems as well as relational problems.
Underactive Root Chakra
When your Root Chakra is underactive, or deficient, you may lack practicality or common sense. You may feel neurotic, nervous, and vulnerable. You may feel apathetic towards life, which may affect your desire for achievement. If you do begin a journey, you may not follow through and finish it.
Underactive Root Chakra can be caused by an early childhood trauma. One that threatened your survival on a base level whether physical or emotional. Some examples include the death of a family member, homelessness, a life-changing accident, severe financial problems, food insecurity, and the end of a relationship.
Root Chakra and Your Health
The Root Chakra is said to represent the skeletal system, as well as the digestive system. Here are a few of the common Root Chakra health complaints: arthritis, dental problems, constipation, diarrhea, impotence, anorexia, bulimia, overeating, sciatica, prostate problems, and incontinence.
Healing Your Root Chakra
There are many ways to heal your Chakras. Working with an energy healer is an excellent way to jumpstart the healing process for you. Energy healing is a noninvasive therapy where the healer uses their connection to the Universe to channel energy through themselves and direct that energy, through their hands, to your Chakras.
If you wish to work on your Chakras alone, you can always develop your connection to the Universe and channel your own healing energy. White light with blue flecks for health, pale green flecks for emotional healing, or pale lavender flecks for spiritual healing.
Physical objects may aid in your Chakra healing, such as crystals, things of certain colors, or essential oils.
Use cleansed and charged crystals for Chakra healing, hold them in your hands and envision the crystal directing its energy into your Chakra. Crystals that are linked to your Root Chakra are:
Black onyx
Black tourmaline
Bloodstone
Flint
Garnet
Hematite
Mahogany jasper
Obsidian
Pyrite
Red aventurine
Red jasper
Ruby
Essential Oils may also be used to heal and align your Chakras, though it is best to speak with a qualified aromatherapist before you use essential oils because they can have an effect on the entire body. Make sure to use a carrier oil if you are applying the oil directly to your skin, or, to be safer, add a few drops into your bath or a diffuser.
Essential Oils for the Root Chakra are:
Cedarwood
Ginger
Jasmine
Oak Moss
Patchouli
Vetiver
Color Healing is another interesting way to heal your Chakras. Color healing is a way of introducing color to the chakras to produce a specific outcome. Anything will work, a piece of ribbon, large buttons, marbles, or a scrap of material. As long as the color is bright and clear. Plain color is better than patterned.
Place the colored item either next to the chakra or on top of the chakra, visualize a white energy coming from the Universe, as it passes through the item, it takes on the color of that item and directs itself to the chakra being healed.
The Root Chakra is associated with the color Red. Red will help to clear and energize your Root Chakra.
Lastly, another way to use Color Healing is to eat fruits and vegetables in the color associated with the Chakra for a day or two.
Fruits and vegetables including:
Cherries
Tomatoes
Red Plums
Red Peppers
Strawberries
Raspberries
I hope you find this information helpful when working with your Root Chakra.
