Chakras
The word Chakra comes from Sanskrit meaning "wheel." Originating in India, references can be found dating back before 2500BCE. The concept of the Chakras and what they represent have been incorporated into Hinduism, Buddhism, China, and western cultures.
But what are they? Chakras are points in the body that energy flows through. Different points have different energy and each have their own specific correspondences. When energy is flowing freely it has a positive affect on the body and the person as a whole. The opposite also being true, when energy is not flowing freely, the body may suffer from negative affects.
There are seven main energy centers in the body, starting at the base of your spine moving upwards, we have the Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown Chakras.
The Solar Plexus Chakra is located above the navel. It's primary symbolization is willpower, intellect, the mind, and personal power.
The third chakra and it is associated with the color yellow. It corresponds with masculine energy, the Sun, the element of Fire, and zodiac sign Leo.
The Throat Chakra is located through the nape of the neck. It's primary symbolization is creativity, truth, and communication.
It is the fifth chakra and is associated with the color sky blue. It corresponds with masculine energy, the planet Mercury, the element of Air, and zodiac signs Gemini and Virgo.
The Crown Chakra is located at the crown of the head or slightly above. It's primary symbolization is willpower, intellect, the mind, and personal power.
It is the seventh chakra and is associated with the color purple. It corresponds with both masculine and feminine energy, the planet Saturn, the element of Light, and zodiac signs Capricorn and Aquarius.
The Sacral Chakra is located at the abdomen. It's primary symbolization relates to creativity, emotion, and sex.
It is the second chakra and associated with the color orange.
It corresponds with feminine energy, the Moon, the element of Water, and zodiac sign Cancer.
The Heart Chakra is located at the central chest. It's primary symbolization is compassion, unconditional love, and relating with others.
It is the fourth chakra and is associated with the color green. It corresponds with feminine energy, the planet Venus, the element of Air, and zodiac signs Taurus and Libra.
The Third Eye Chakra is above the eyes, central forehead. It's primary symbolization is inner wisdom, ESP, intuition, and psychism.
The sixth chakra and it is associated with the color indigo blue. It corresponds with masculine energy, the planet Jupiter, the element of Light, and zodiac signs Sagittarius and Pisces.
Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine. It's primary symbolization is instincts, survival, safety, grounding, and taking nourishment at a basic level.
It is the first chakra and associated with the color red. It corresponds with masculine energy, the planet Mars, the element of Earth, and zodiac signs Aries and Scorpio.
